As long as the area is accessible and our drivers can get to it safely, your preferred placement shouldn’t be a problem. There are some legal requirements, and we’ll be more than happy to explain these to you if you have any concerns.
Yes, placing the gas bottles in direct sunlight and heat is not a problem. It won’t affect the quality in any way as our LPG gas bottles are specifically designed for this. Our gas bottles are safe and built to last. They are regularly maintained, checked and fit for purpose in New Zealand’s weather conditions.
Please check our delivery map to see where and when our drivers deliver. If you are unsure, please can give us a call on 06 873 4091 and our friendly customer service team will help you out.
For us, safety comes first. LPG cylinders are designed to withstand extremely high pressures and heat, and even in extreme fire conditions, they will not explode. To regulate pressure, a small amount of gas may be released in controlled bursts, which is completely normal.
Our technicians carefully inspect each cylinder for maintenance and expiration, ensuring the safety standards are always met. At every delivery, we also perform a leak test on the cylinder connection point and hoses to confirm everything is functioning correctly. Please note that all other system checks should be carried out by a qualified gasfitter.
Smelling gas is not always a sign of danger, but it’s always best to stay on the safe side. If you smell LPG, turn off the gas supply, ensure ventilation, and avoid flames and sparks. If safe to do so, apply soapy water to the cylinder connection and hoses. Bubbles forming indicate a leak. If the smell is strong or persistent, evacuate the area and contact a licensed gasfitter for assistance. If you suspect a major leak or emergency, call 111 immediately.
No, you don’t have to be at home when we visit. Even if you’re out, we will still deliver your gas. We’ll have your details on file in case we do need to contact you. If you have a security gate with a code, we’ll need to know and if there is a dog onsite, please make sure it is indoors or safely restrained.
We supply 9kg 12kg, 15kg, 19kg and 45kg cylinders to home and businesses throughout central Hawke’s Bay. We can also refill your 9kg bottles on our site on 42 Irongate Road East, Longlands, Hastings. Just give us a call first on 06 873 4091 to make sure someone is available at the time you arrive and if you have an account with us, let us know.
Using only small amounts of gas at a time is also not a problem. If the gas bottles are stored upright and located in a well-ventilated area, they will be perfectly safe and good to use for several years. If you have ordered gas for your holiday home and there’s gas left in the bottle when you leave, it will be completely fine to turn on again and use next summer.
If you are moving, please contact us so that we can arrange a time to collect our cylinders and cancel your account. Each cylinder will be weighed for residual gas and if any, will be credited back to you. We will also credit back any unused rental (if applicable). You can also choose to gift the remaining gas to the new occupants. They will need to open their own account with us, as Rockgas accounts cannot be transferred to another person. Once they have opened an account, we’ll cancel yours.
If gas bottles are lost, damaged or stolen, please give our customer service team a call right away. As per our Ts & Cs, you are responsible for the cost of the rented cylinders, but your insurance company should cover the cost.
Feel free to get in touch by phone or email if your questions about LPG or the Rockgas service are not answered in this list. We’re here to assist.
